Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatter, March Hare
08/31/26: I just finished reading Through The Looking-Glass. I was curious about it because it's a short book and I really liked reading Alice in Wonderland in the past, but unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the sequel nearly as much. Both stories are a dream that Alice is having. But in Wonderland, everything is more captivating: the lore, the encounters and the humor; there's just more of a plot, and it takes you to a place which feels like a real kingdom with a society.
The Disney movie follows the first book pretty closely, except they removed some parts that are too dark for the movie or a bit boring, and imported some things from the Looking-Glass (the talking flowers, also Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum)

8/27/26: While the concept of this new game is simple – looking at different styles in history for inspiration, to have a variety of shapes for my cartoony character – it’s actually a lot to look at, maybe too much. So I was checking the main time periods and at least now it’s clearer in my mind how they fit together.
Thoughts on each style:
The look under Henry VII and VIII is very stylized, flattering and medieval-ish.
Queen Elizabeth (the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn) introduced her own taste, it's very distinctive but more about projecting power than beauty.
The rococo fashion is particularly fancy and feminine with lots bows, roses and lace.
The empire style (or regency in England) is a Greek larp that didn't last, with a completely different shape of dress and much less ornate.
Queen Victoria had a long reign where she brought back a look more natural for English women, very feminine, elegant and conservative.
The edwardian style is that brief period before WW1. It's similar to Victorian but looks more "1900".

8/25/26: WIP with the color palette applied to some items. tbh making the clothes is kind of a messy process: it's rare for me to start a game with a detailed plan of what will be included. I use the initial sketches to make a first batch of items, test with a color palette, then add more. I'm working on a list of what is missing in terms of skirts / bodices / sleeves, trying to see, what would help the game feel complete? What is cute in my collection of references, that I haven't added yet? Were there things I wanted to include when I first felt inspired to start this theme, that I completely left out?
About other sections:
The face is finished, while the hair needs more work, but it would be wise to finish the hats before adding more hair. She also could use belts, jewelry and things to hold. And another layer of clothing like cape / coat.

Lady Jane color palette
08/19/26: Color palette for the skirt / bodice / sleeves: making sure these colors look nice on one outfit combo before applying them to more items.

8/14/26: WIP with the face and a few hairstyles; I find some options came out good while some need fixing, but that's always how it goes.

8/12/26: Arm positions... They had to change when I tried on new shapes of skirts. At first the arms looked great to hold a purse or basket. But with a wide tudor dress or a narrow regency dress, they looked too stiff. I redrew them to be more graceful with the tudor dress: much better! But now when a skirt isn’t wide enough to reach her hand, it looks weird again. So I tried other ways and found a position that looks natural whenever you change her style of dress.

Eyes and lips for Lady Jane
8/10/26: Some work on her face. She's a bit blurry, because in Photoshop I have to really zoom in to draw the features (even though they'll be much smaller in the game)

Pose for Lady Jane
8/7/26: A pose for the doll. I chose 3/4 so we can see her headdress better than from the front. Also, choosing a title, "English Fashion" sounds confusing imo with English being the international language, while "England's Fashion" would be clearer. But I'm going with "Lady Jane," that sounds like a catchy title, and it helps me think of the doll as a character in a story.

Sketches English lady
8/5/26: sketches based on the Youtube slideshow I mentioned below. The concept for this new game is similar to the one in French Court in a sense (historical fashion, successive periods brought together), but the approach is different, I'd like the doll to seem like she's a character from a Disney movie.

8/3/26: Some references for the next dress up game, about historical fashion in England :) I came across this random Youtube short and it made me want to try a doll on this theme: since there's a lot of variation as well as continuity I can construct a dress around it, and I personally love how it looks. Not sure what will be included in the end but the periods I'm considering are on this timeline: Tudor / Elizabethan / Rococo / Regency / Victorian / Edwardian, as a guide.
